UPHA manufacturers and markets a diversity of pharmaceutical including a wide range of generic drugs and an extensive line of consumer products including food supplement and OTC vitamins. It also undertakes contract manufacturing of pharmaceutical products for reputable multinational pharmaceuticals organisations.

The company established its manufacturing and marketing entity in 1976. In 1995, UPHA was acquired by the Chemical Company of Malaysia Berhad and since then has emerged as one of the leading suppliers of pharmaceutical products and services in Malaysia.

The company has a paid -up capital of RM8 million and a yearly turnover of RM49 million in 1997.

Facilities

The company operates from two manufacturing sites, a 120,000 sq. ft. facility located at Bangi and a 20,000 sq. ft. site in Subang Jaya. Both facilities operate to GMP standards and have certification from Malaysian Drug Control Authority while the softgel manufacturing facility at the Bangi site also has the stamp of approval from the Australian Therapeutic Goods Administration.

UPHA's manufacturing capacity will be increased further with the commissioning of its liquid line and wet granulation facility.

Substantial investments have been made in upgrading and extending the current facilities to increase capacities. RM20 million has been spent over the last two years to upgrade and to expand the manufacturing capacities of UPHA in all the normal dosage formats. UPHA recently commissioned its softgel manufacturing facility and thus achieving a 'first' in the Malaysian pharmaceutical industry by gaining both the DCA and TGA approvals. Built to international standards by pharmagel of Italy and at a cost of RM7 million, the softgel plant is the first of its standard in the country.
