Introduction

Kotra Pharma was incorporated in 1982 and focused mainly in the distribution of pharmaceutical products throughout Malaysia. By 1985, however, Kotra Pharma ventured into the manufacturing of pharmaceutical products. Between 1985 and 1997, in line with GMP needs. RM. 17 million was invested in manufacturing and testing facilities. Today, Kotra Pharma produces up to 18 different therapeutic classes of quality products under the brand name "AXCEL"

Kotra Pharma has also set up new departments to venture into other areas of healthcare, particularly in health supplement under the "APPETON" brandname. Having invested substantially in building this brandname over the past 8 years, "APPETON" is today among the leading brands for children's multi-vitamins market in Malaysia.

In the area of R&D, Kotra is actively pursuing into new formulation development and also in the area of bioscience research.

Facilities

The company's production facilities are situated on a 189,446 sq. ft land area in Cheng Industrial Estate, Melaka. Of the total area, 31,000 sq. ft is for production and 26,000 sq. ft for warehousing.

Kotra Pharma is currently building a new plant for the manufacturing of sterile products. This facility will be operational by the last quarter of 1999.

Kotra Pharma has 84 products registered with the National Pharmaceutical Control Bureau under the Ministry of Health, Malaysia. Registration is pending for another 30 products.

Kotra Pharma's registered products include 64 generic products under the brandname "AXCEL". The other 20 OTC products are marketed under 5 different categories i.e. Therapeutic, Health Supplement, Nutritional Care, Oral Care and Beverages.
