PHARMANIAGA MANUFACTURING BERHAD
Pharmaniaga Manufacturing Berhad is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Pharmaniaga Berhad, a public listed company on the Main Board of Bursa Malaysia.
Pharmaniaga Manufacturing Berhad (PMB) began in 1980 as a manufacturer and supplier of quality generic medicines to the Malaysian Ministry of Health. Since 1994, the company has extended its business into the private CP market, contract manufacturing, OTC medicines as well as international export markets.
Pharmaniaga's manufacturing plants in Bangi and Bandar Seri Iskandar underwent facility upgrading and renovation in 2004 to meet Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) requirements as well as to enhance capacity. The third phase upgrading works in Bangi involving the Quality and R & D laboratories, and the office was completed during the year. The penicillin plant in Bandar Seri Iskandar went through major redesigning and reconstruction, and expected to be ready to resume commercial production by the second quarter of 2005. In total, Pharmaniaga has invested approximately RM13.1 million in plant upgrading work in 2004. Pursuant to the massive upgrading work in the Bandar Seri Iskandar plants, as well as the sudden surge in demand from the export market, Bangi plant had to provide additional manufacturing capacity that resulted in the implementation of a three-shift cycle in most production lines.
Pharmaniaga has also successfully obtained approval from the National Pharmaceutical Control Bureau (NPCB) for its sterile Cephalosporin manufacturing facility. We are now in the position to embark on the manufacturing of sterile Cephalosporin products and antibiotics with commercial output target for the third quarter of 2005. Pharmaniaga's efforts to inculcate a culture of quality throughout our operations have borne fruit. The Bangi plant has attained ISO9001, ISO14001 and OHSAS18001 certification. Four of Pharmaniaga's staff in the manufacturing division successfully attained the lead assessor certification for ISO9001:2000, while a Senior Manager for Quality Management has been designated a Senior Member of the American Society for Quality, recognition for her profound dedication to quality.
Pharmaniaga will continue to focus on customer-centric manufacturing and the expansion of the manufacturing capacity. The sterile Cephalosporin production line will be fully utilised to capture the market share of the Celaphosporin antibiotics range, while the successful rationalisation between Bandar Seri Iskandar and Bangi plants will result in centers of excellence that will tap the synergies between the two plants to ensure improved efficiency, economies of scale and maximisation of resources. These initiatives will help position Pharmaniaga as a leading Malaysian supplier of innovative generics.
